The Road to Grand Canyon

January 6, 2016

The road to the Grand Canyon was an amusing and engaging one. At least when we would pass through the little towns on the way there, otherwise it was nothing but stretches of land that seemed to go on for miles and miles.

We came across Pie Town, New Mexico. (Yup, it's real.) It's incredibly charming, but incredibly secluded as well. Pie Town is famous for exactly that, Pies, specifically their chocolate fudge pies, which weren't bad at all when we stopped in at Pie Town Cafe to try some.

The following photos are of random artwork we came across while driving through towns.

Our favorite stop was the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, Arizona. Does it look familiar? This location on Route 66 inspired the Cozy Cone Motel you see in Pixar's CARS.

Gorgeous boots for sale in a store we stopped in before arriving to the Grand Canyon.

We arrived just at the right time. My family and I were contemplating whether or not to wait until morning to see the Canyon for the first time, but we simply couldn't wait. We were able to witness it during sunset, and it was breathtaking. I have never felt more humbled (and tiny) until I laid my eyes on the Grand Canyon.
