Our first tour of Cancún was to Chichén Itzá, the newest wonder of the world. While on this tour, I took plenty of photos, so I wanted to break this post into two parts. Here is part 1; so you can get an idea of what the location looks like when you first arrive.
Our tour arrived at Mayaland, the most charming and secluded resort I've ever seen. It's located in the heart of the archaeological grounds of Chichén Itzá. I was struck by how quaint this hotel was. You are surrounded by trees and singing birds, with the sun rays beaming in between the leaves. I got the impression that this place was definitely private, and only allowed tours to come through in order to see Chichén Itzá.
The view from the entrance at Mayaland.
These massive roots growing from inside the hotel. Annoyed that the picture turned out blurry!
And now on to the charming hotel grounds!
When we arrived back at the hotel, we were treated to a cleansing experience. The man in the photo burned herbs (which smelled amazing), and chanted a cleansing and renewal ritual for us. It was pretty cool. I will be adding those clips to my vlog.
The tour included breakfast and lunch. The breakfast was served after we were picked up at Moon Palace, and then lunch was served after the tour at Mayaland. The food was so good! We got to try traditional Mayan dishes. (If you're a vegetarian however, Mayaland has got you covered.) We also got to watch these ladies perform traditional dances, and show off some serious skills.
My next post will highlight Chichén Itzá and the tour.
